Huawei, Vodafone Team Up on Smart Parking
The Internet of Things (IoT) is many things. On top of enabling cars to get more than aware of their surroundings and being fully autonomous, it is now extending its footprint into your parking space as well.
China-based Huawei, along with Vodafone, recently conducted pilot trials for smart parking in Spain, with more tests beingness planned. The successful pilots, conducted in conjunction with Fangle and Ublox, found bachelor indoor parking spots remotely.
"Smart Parking will permit users to access parking data remotely, from a mobile app. This includes looking for available parking spots, navigating to these bachelor spots, and and so on," the companies revealed in a joint-statement. "Additionally, the solution is suppose to create new revenue streams for municipal direction, reduce public parking running costs, and assistance convalesce traffic congestion."
As is, IoT is still attempting to make 'dumb' products 'smart' past adding in connectivity. However, much of its focus has been in the abode, where thermostats can automatically arrange to people'south preferences and fridges can notify residents that they're running out of eggs.
Of course, with these parking tests - information technology clearly proves that IoT is going outside the home. Indeed, the trial aims at merely making parking lots capable of telling operators and users when and where spots are bachelor.
Looking ahead, Huawei and Vodafone added that "the trial will be turned into a live demonstration set within the Business Exhibition Heart at Vodafone Plaza in Madrid for showcasing the solution to Vodafone'southward customers and visitors."
They also have some other test planned for Turkey around the start of June 2022 before the tech becomes commercially available in early-2017.
